The Science of Goal Achievement
It is no secret that personal achievement is a science, the result of definite plans rooted in a purpose and backed by focus and persistence. However, if the mind is not conditioned for success, all of the persistence in the world may not yield the results you desire. If you want to create wealth, optimal health, loving relationships or abundance, but you harbor thoughts of limitation and lack, you will not achieve the fulfillment you say you desire.
I remember attending motivational seminars and retreats led by highly recognized and respected teachers such as Tony Robins, Les Brown, Donald Trump, Brian Tracy and others. I would feel incredible excitement and just knew that this would be the seminar that would change my life. For several weeks, I would apply the principles that I learned and then my excitement eventually fizzled. Ultimately, I became frustrated because my life was not changing, nor was my bank account.
Some of these individuals used very powerful success technologies that have proven invaluable to thousands of people, so why didn’t I experience similar results? It wasn’t until I attended a remarkable three-day seminar entitled “The Millionaire Mind Intensive” led by self-made millionaire T. Harve Eker that I discovered two fatal flaws in my process:
- The Mind: Although my conscious mind was being conditioned for success, my sub-conscious mind did not believe I was worthy of prosperity and abundance. So despite all of my attempts to achieve my goals, I could only go so far. Making progress required that I go through a process of uprooting deeply held beliefs about being unworthy, which created a mindset of scarcity, lack and limitation in the subconscious mind. Until the weeds are plucked from the subconscious, nothing can grow.
- Clarity: Like most people, I spoke in generalities and did not have a definite chief aim or a clear vision for what I wanted to create in my life. I knew I wanted to create wealth but I did not construct an image of what that looked like for me. In the absence of having clarity, we send mixed messages into the Universe and it responds accordingly. It is essential that you are clear. Clarity is power.
Rather than focus explicitly on financial success, the facilitators brought people through a process of deconstructing their attitudes, values and beliefs about money. Depending on a number of factors, such as family upbringing and social conditioning, many people will be limited from achieving their goals because on some level they do not believe it is possible.
In his classic book, Think and Grow Rich, Napolean Hill, teaches that the starting point of human achievement is the development of a clear mission and purpose supported by a plan of action. Rarely does one become successful by chance. Rather, it is through clarity and a singleness of purpose backed by a mindset that has been excavated of negativity and limitations. Your mind must be in harmony with and support your ultimate aim.
Below I have outlined several steps you can use to begin your process of goal achievement.
- Identify what you want most in your life. What is your major aim? Believe it or not, more than 90 percent of people will not be able to answer this question. Spend some time contemplating what this means for you. Take your time.
- Write a clear and concise statement expressing what you are seeking to accomplish.
- Define a plan by which you will accomplish your goals. Be specific and try to work through any concepts that are vague.
- Spend quiet time every day reflecting on your goals and bringing them into your mind’s eye. Visualize them happening and make every effort to confront any negative thoughts or ideas that contradict the goals that you have set forth. Inquire of yourself where these thoughts and ideas came from, whether it is something negative someone said about you, a feeling of inferiority, or impressions that you received from your youth.
- Finally, form an alliance or a Master Mind group with several people from whom you can draw support and inspiration. Each person should be actively engaged in demonstrating their own goals. These people should have your best interest at heart and be serious about making their demonstration.
